'Well done' to us

Today we say 'well done' to ourselves. Actually we thank Jehovah as the brotherhood is the reason we did well.

Also the expression 'Well Done' is a significant one as it comes up a lot in conversations in our home congregation, maybe you have heard that said in Midsomer Norton, Somerset UK?

(Of course the song #134 comes to mind too & we'd love to hear that said wouldn't we).

Barbra has been wonderful, supportive & informative. I'm sure she's shattered though, hopefully still as happy that we're here as she was pleased we were coming??

Barbra left us yesterday morning in Antigua after our first 4 days with her at her place & nights here together in Casa Ruinas. The Strouds accompanied us from there on, as you may have read - first in service & a town tour to familiarise us with the amenities.

So alone we've done quite well!

So after the best nights sleep for weeks (9 hours) then our breakfast we headed off into Antigua ALONE!!!

A casual day - a mull about - little visit to the bank to change our Dollars into Q's Quetzal pronounced 'ket-zale-es' (probably even that is incorrect but that's how we hear it pronounced with our little English ears).

Then a visit to the supermarket - yes we are in need of a few supplies even though we brought out the hypermarket in Guatemala City. We have to buy a bucket & bowl (all fruit/veg/salad has to be soak washed in an antibacterial liquid before we can eat it  - hence the need for a. medium bowl ).

So we did our bit for the economy ploughing a small amount from our pockets into the system by shopping ...

(Antigua Economy
Tourism is the main driver of the economy. Antigua is also a coffee-producing region of Anacafé.)

We had coffee in Sabe Rico - phew best pick up coffee this trip, check out Sabe Rico on the web☺️ We came out buzzing ...

We weaved our way back home through the streets ( so grateful for my new Memphisto  sandals but I don't think they'll last the whole vacation as the cobbled streets are so hard on footwear). The streets are designed in a north south street & avenue affair so easy to work out & manage. We did not get ourselves lost.

Tackling the wash & dryer machine was not so straightforward, however a translation page on the web assisted us to eventually work out basics such as Stop Pause Open - yes I know it was sad wasn't it but our Spanish is worse than limited. Maybe that will improve; watch this space.

We are still loving this place, love it!!  Even though we have been bitten by Mosquitos - counting new places each day. I have a little electric shock zapper it works on flint sparks & helps a bit, I've covered my bites with plasters too to stop me from touching them Yes I mean itching them, oh they drive you crazy (one is distracting me right NOW).

So I know some of you are waiting for pictures of the main house we're renting?? Are you, who is reading this anyway? You're welcome to comment or email if you have time, it would be nice to hear from someone back home apart from our kids who've been on Whatsapp each day - Thank you Amanda & Andrew xxx

So about this house ( a link to the agents advert below will show you everything you need to know) plus:
It was called Casa Khol but has since been changed to Casa las Ruinas.
See the notes from the owner regarding the history and development if the property ...

  2. Hi Ruth and Phil. This is kevin and Yvonne from bath. Thanks so much for your blog. It's given us a much better idea of what Guatemala is like. What a beautiful country! And we're sure Ian and Laura will be very impressed with the villa. But Laura will not be so impressed with the mosquitoes!
Please continue to tell us of your adventures. We send our love to you both and all the brothers especially Ian and Laura when you see them.
    Love from K&Y
